Hermès: Quality Above All

The oldest luxury fashion house, Hermès has a distinct code of quality above all else that comes across in every piece they craft.

Hermès was originally founded as a harness workshop in 1837; after nearly a hundred years of honing their crafting skill and artisanal methods, they branched out into accessories for use beyond the saddle with their first line of purse.

They maintain the same hand crafting methods and codes of quality they began with resulting in luxury leather accessories like no other. Hermès produces far fewer goods than other brands that sell at the same price range.

This is also why you don’t see vintage Hermès as often as say Gucci or Louis Vuitton; despite a nearly 200 year history, there are simply fewer products in existence!

We are lucky enough to have had a parade of gorgeous examples of Hermès excellence, including several pieces available in store now. Keep scrolling for a closer look at the history behind some of our favorites accessories from the designer brand!

Luxurious Leather

Not only is every product crafted by hand, Hermès artisans spend 2 years in training before they are allowed to so much as assist in the production of an actual Hermès piece. The Calvi Cardholder above comes in a soft goatskin leather in a now discontinued hue evocatively called Rose Mexican.

Sensational Scarves

Exactly 100 years from the brand’s inception, Hermès released their very first silk scarf which began a long tradition of collaborations with fine artists. Screen printed by hand, hand-rolled and hand stitched, it still takes the artisans up to 6 months to complete one of these works of art. Featured above is the ‘L’Intrus’ or ‘The Intruder’ silk scarf designed in 1996 by Antoine de Jacquelot.

Beautiful Bangles

Introduced in 1967, the enamel bracelet was designed as a compliment to the boldly printed scarf; oftentimes the prints on these bangles are taken directly from their most popular designs! The above Les Cannes XL Futurisme Enamel Bracelet was based on the Les Cannes Silk Scarf that features a similar line up of whimsical canes.
